Lakewood DHS/Division of Youth

I. Job Seekers Event –

• PR in the Observer has generated registrations
• Jim Hansen’s presentation will be in the auditorium; Amy would like hers in the Tech area, however, the space is limited.
• Participants will be able to get library cards for Lakewood and Cuyahoga County Libraries.
• Participants will be given folders which will include materials relative to the workshop
• Phone calls have been received from job coaches asking if they could come; it was decided that there would be no for profit groups but Tri-C and Lakewood Alive could have information available; Lakewood Alive’s programs are free and could be networking tools to involve them further with the Collab; ESOP/HPRP/Renters Rights are other programs that could be included.
• Could the Rec Dept give $10 gift certificates for computer classes?
• Still attempting to acquire flash drives that would have our logo printed on them; Radio Shack and Staples declined; Office Max gave their job opportunities flyers but need to be contacted locally with letter on letterhead; Kristine has Collab letterhead but we are not 501(c)(3)OM; we could possibly use the Foundation letterhead on behalf of the Collab.
• Survey is needed in folders asking:
a. how they heard about us
b. rate the event
c. what topics or services do they think would help in their search (check boxes)
d. are they a resident of Lakewood
e. contact information for future
f. new job or career change
g. what area of work (check boxes)
h. how long out of work
i. are they volunteering
j. assess location of meeting

• Refreshments – water, healthy – fruits, granola bars, candy/mints, cookies
• Dress For Success and people/establishments with job openings could be future events in which we could branch out and have more hands-on.

II. Lakewood Observer Forum -

• Promo done to get people on Forum but Mel is no longer with the LO so there is a problem with people who registered and not gotten approved. LO is going to a community board, however, they need an administrator for the Collab Forum. Communications is meeting on the 17th at which time this can be addressed

a. what is needed
b. what would responsibilities be
c. are people going to use the Forum
• Articles need to be written to be submitted to the Observer; Dottie is getting an article on healthy eating

III. Collab Meeting/Agenda

I. Welcome
II. Spotlight – County Board of Health
III. Discussion – Lakewood Police (neighborhood officers) will do a presentation on safety; suggestion was made to send out a press release/email inviting block captains, the Chamber, MOMA, PTA and ECPTA, Library, etc.; also to have PD write article on safety tips.
IV. Action Teams
• Foster Care Recruitment – Colleen – Moving Hearts Gallery
• Hospitality/Membership – Kristine needs 10 contacts who should be receiving our newsletter from everyone on Collab.
V. Announcements
VI. Next Collab Meeting: June 24th

IV. Suggestions
• have meeting notices on Observer and on the City’s website.
• look forward to the summer possibly tagging on to Live Well Lakewood utilizing the new community garden center, LEAF (Thursday’s), Paula, LCSC, NE Ohio Farmer’s market (Wednesday’s) and local farmer’s market at Marc’s Plaza (Saturday’s).
• booths at festivals (Community, Arts, Meet the Trucks, Street Walk, however we need a hook to get people to stop at our booth. This could be combined with Toni Gelsomino’s “Family Focus” and Lakewood Alive – Family, Children, Community. How do we do this in a meaningful way? Dottie and Miss Donna will plan for Lakewood Alive.
• Communication will look at festivals and booths for market but someone needs to take the lead.
• Questions – Bottom line is that if we do not have a plan for our future, this could fall apart. We need something concrete to pick it up. What does the next year look like? We need a planning session. Dottie and Mary will brainstorm about future planning.
